SUSAN FRAME Email: [email protected] Website: www.susanframe.com ARTIST'S STATEMENT Susan Frame is a pioneer of vertical brushwriting in English and an internationally renowned painter, published author, poet and teacher who has been playing with ink for more than 40 years. She began studying classical sumi-e/ink-brush painting while in college, and continued by integrating the traditional materials with lots of experimental techniques. Drawing on her American experiences as subject matter for both her calligraphic poems and her paintings, she is recognized for her energetic, personal, "from the heart" approach. She works spontaneously, often beginning an artwork without a sketch or a plan. She exhibits and teaches worldwide, and maintains a professional studio in the Arts District of NE Minneapolis, MN. Frame says, A simple flower inspires me, as does the Northern Minnesota drama of rugged cliffs, cathedral trees and cascading waterfalls. They “speak” to me about the beauty and wonder of life. I turn to nature to replenish my soul, to remind myself of my place in the universe, and to find peace. My artwork is a reflection of that peace and beauty.
